Founded by 44 men and women on December 12, 1975, in Washington, D.C., NABJ is the largest organization of journalists of color in the nation.

Program Coordinator

Program Coordinator will report to the Executive Director or assigned designate. He/she will have both internal and external facing responsibilities that focus on consistent management of process, operations, and program management.  This individual will partner with the Executive Director and across departments to ensure that strategies and initiatives are aligned with those of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ).  He/she is both a strategic partner and hands-on contributor. The person in this role must be able to effectively engage and influence staff, members and partners at all levels


JOB DESCRIPTION

Programs & Professional Development

  • Executes and collaborates to develop current and new programs internal and external of the annual convention
  • Uses existing and new relationships with members and partners to facilitate new programs and training
  • Collaborates with others handling programs, logistics and events execution
  • Develops thought leadership around specific topics/emerging practice areas
  • Assists with convention hotel site-survey
  • Collaborates on convention resume development
  • Collaborates with ED to revamp convention schedule to maximize learning and revenue opportunities
  • Manages select external vendors (A/V, special events production)
  • Assists the executive director with strategic planning and coordination of the organization's programs, projects, and policy positions
  • Partners with the ED in essential internal organizational leadership activities (human resources, administration, and organizational planning)
  • Collaborates on ways to improve existing processes and fix pain points through automation, streamlining, and establishing shared services
  • Continuously evaluates the effectiveness of the organization’s operational efficiencies relating to programming
  • Travels to regional and national conferences, affiliate chapter meetings and events

Preferred Skills

  • Strategic, critical thinking with strong problem-solving skills and common business acumen
  • Superb organizational skills and detailed-oriented
  • Knowledge of journalism and media-related industries and their changing dynamics
  • Excellent quantitative skills: comfortable analyzing large volumes of data
  • Familiarity with project management tools
  • Experience working on concurrent priority projects
  • Proficiency with PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Photoshop and databases
  • Highly flexible and adaptable to changing structures and priorities

Customer Service Concierge

This person is responsible for supporting the Development Director with partnership relations.  The successful candidate will be responsible for documenting and executing delivery of partner benefits.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Partnership fulfillment

  • Continuous interaction with partners/sponsors for benefit fulfillment
  • Develop and review timelines to ensure critical fundraising processes
  • Collaborate to identify repeat and new corporate, government, foundation and individual prospects
  • Conduct research to ascertain partner funding priorities
  • Cultivate pre-convention, convention and post-convention relationships to get constant feedback on partner experience
  • Assists primary Development Director in charge of fundraising activities
  • Build relationships with existing and potential clients
  • Assist board and committees with fundraising as needed
  • Assist committees and national office with creating prospectus for year-around fundraising activities
  • Assist Development Director with making cold colds to potential partners
  • Assist with soliciting repeat business from past partners
