About #NABJNAHJ20

The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) will hold our joint National Convention & Career Fair from July 8-12, 2020. 

#NABJNAHJ20 will be held at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park, located at 2660 Woodley Road NW. (Hotel blocks will open soon. Stay tuned to our emails, social media and website for updates and and for details on convention registration.)

Our convention is the premier venue for journalism training, career development, networking opportunities and exposure to new and unreleased media platforms and films! We attract leaders and influencers in journalism and digital media, communications, technology, education, business, arts and entertainment, sports, politics and more.

The #NABJNAHJ20 Career Fair draws hundreds of recruiters from the top media companies and journalism schools from across the country and around the world. Countless headline makers, innovators and industry leaders in politics, media, journalism and film have attended #NABJNAHJ20 Conventions.

 

Special guests and speakers have included then-Sen. (President) Barack Obama, President George W. Bush, President Bill Clinton, Vice Presidents Al Gore and Joseph Biden, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch, U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro, RNC Chairs Michael Steele and Reince Priebus, Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington, Bishop T. D. Jakes, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, the Rev. Al Sharpton, Ava Duvernay, Tyler Perry, Chance the Rapper, Hill Harper, Michael B. Jordan and Tamron Hall. 


 NABJ and NAHJ together attract more than 6,000 attendees to its conventions.


 

#NABJNAHJ20 Mission and Convention Goals


  • Identify and highlight innovation programs that improve access for journalists of color.

  • Facilitate diversity in all sectors of journalism and encourage greater collaboration among journalists’ organizations and media companies.

  • Advance diversity, inclusion and equality on digital platforms, in newsrooms, campuses and reporting.

  • Enhance career opportunities for black and hispanic journalists.

  • Facilitate systemic change throughout media organizations.

  • Promote industry-wide dialogue on diversity and increase cultural sensitivity.

  • Continue to provide NABJ and NAHJ members, exhibitors, recruiters, and partner opportunities to network and build relationships.

The Call for Sessions is now open until midnight (PT) on January 17, 2020 for the #NABJNAHJ20 Convention & Career Fair scheduled for July 8-12, 2020 at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, D.C.


Due to the anticipated high volume of submissions and limited space availability, NABJ members may submit up to two (2) session proposals for consideration that explore the future of journalism and media. Please be prepared to submit organizer and panelist/presenter contact information, provide the proposed session title and description, select a track, and acknowledge several disclaimers.

 #NABJNAHJ20 Career Fair 

The #NABJNAHJ20 Career Fair is the largest career expo for minority journalists and media professionals in the country. The #NABJNAHJ20 Career Fair will take place from July 8-10 at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park. The Career Fair showcases the tremendous range of news organizations operating today, from journalism schools to digital startups looking for journalists and media-related professionals for their newsrooms.


The companies that attend the Career Fair are seeking to fill full-time positions, internships and freelance assignments. Employers seek candidates to cover a range of subject areas including health and science, business and economics, investigative journalism, sports, weather, media, technology, politics and government, general assignment, race and justice, metro and community news, arts, culture and entertainment, food, travel and fashion, international news and more.
