Facebook Journalism Project Scholarship



2018 Facebook Journalism Project Scholarship NEW


In February 2018, NABJ partnered with Facebook on its recently launched The Facebook Journalism Project Scholarship.


The scholarship program was created to support the next generation of journalists, and to strengthen the pipeline of diversity in journalism and media. NABJ joins our fellow journalism organizations, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, Native American Journalists Association, Asian American Journalists Association, and the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association, as participants in Facebook's scholarship program.


  • $40,000 will be disbursed to four recipients in the amount of $10,000.
  • $2,000 will be disbursed to one recipient for the use of digital gear, books and supplies.



Applicants must be an enrolled (verified by an official university/college transcript) junior, senior or graduate student at an accredited university in the United States, and pursuing a degree in digital media, journalism or communications with a commitment to digital storytelling, and demonstrated by:


  • Completed coursework;
  • At least 3-5 clips, work samples, letters of recommendation from professors or supervisors who are familiar with your work and who can attest to your career commitment
  • A personal statement (500-600 words) outlining your motivations, interest or purpose in pursuing a career in journalism
  • Certification that applicants have not previously received a scholarship from another participating journalism organization (e.g., NAHJ, HAJA, AAJA, NLGJA) at any time, and that they are not applying for more than one Facebook Journalism Project Scholarship.
