Tanzi West Barbour

Intro/Background:
Tanzi West Barbour is the Chief Communications Officer at the Wayfinder Foundation and the current NABJ Media-Related Board Member

Education:
1994 Undergraduate: Howard University, Bachelors of Science -Radio, TV, Film, Washington, DC. 2006; Graduate School, University of Maryland University College, MBA Degree

Experience:
Tanzi West Barbour has worked in the public relations and communications sector for more than 24 years. As a member of the leadership team in her current position, Tanzi helps award grants totaling $1 million to low-income women of color who are community activists and advocates. Tanzi has also maintained her boutique PR firm since 1997 where she has provided strategic communications assistance to top companies in a variety of sectors including sports, healthcare, education, and social justice.

Related Experience:
Tanzi West Barbour has served as the Media Related Representatives on the NABJ Board since 2015.During her time on the board, the organization has moved to operating in a surplus, seen an increase in membership, and have brought new programs specifically for the membership Tanzi represents on the board - communications, public relations, marketing, etc. During her tenure on the board, Tanzi has raised $180,000 in new funds for the organization, making her one of the largest fundraisers on the Board.

Statement:
I believe in continuity and finishing assignments that you have been given. And because of that, I believe my work is not yet done as an NABJ Board Member. We are just now being able to see the fruit of our labor of advocating and pushing for increased programming for Media-Related Members at our annual Convention and throughout the year. With three years of Board membership under my belt, I am ready to continue working tirelessly identifying new sponsors, supporters, and members on behalf of the 400+ NABJ Media Related members. I look forward to continuing to serve you.
