The Elections Committee is pleased to announce the list of certified candidates for the 2018-2020 Board of Directors:

Terry Allen
CEO/Executive

Intro/Background:

Mr. Allen is CEO of 1016 Media and a Senior Account Executive for FedEx Services, where he is currently ranked as the 7th top Account Executive in the U.S.

 

Education:

B.A., Journalism, Southern Methodist University, 2017

Alumni, University of Dallas at Dallas

Alumni, Dallas County Community College District

 

Experience:

Mr. Allen is an award-winning public relations expert, best-selling co-author (“Real Mean Cook: Rites, Rituals and Recipes for Living” - Simon and Schuster) and newspaper columnist. He worked as Public Relations Manager for the City of Dallas/Office of Cultural Affairs. He was the Managing Editor at the Dallas Examiner and Business Columnist for the FWBN.  He has executed 2 successful NABJ webinars on Career & Chapter Development and one mentoring program. His work has resulted in the resurgence and increased fundraising strategies for several NABJ chapters. He has 10 plus years in Public Relations and nonprofit management.

 

Related Experience:

Mr. Allen co-chaired NABJ’s Associate Member Task Force, which helped to create and execute the Patricia L. Tobin Media Professional Award as a permanent NABJ imprint. A past NABJ Salute to Excellence for Public Relations-Award recipient, he has powered over 20 workshops/events for NABJ. As Marketing and PR Director, Business Assistance Center, Terry raised over $3 million; produced 42+ business owners; generated $1.8 million in revenue; and garnered five awards in marketing. He serves on several boards/task forces. PR clients include American Airlines, Time, Inc., and Essence. Past history includes serving as a managing editor/columnist for four black newspapers.

 

Statement:

If elected to serve as the Media Related Board Representative, I want to usher in a new era of securing transition training for journalists, valuable certifications for NABJ media-related members and creating a $50,000 annual operating endowment for the NABJ’s Media-Related Member Task Force.
