Journalists, media professionals and other prominent health officials will gather March, 29-31, 2012 in Washington, DC for NABJ’s Annual Health Conference. This conference has garnered headlines and the attention of newsmakers that bring together on a broad range of stakeholders from the health arena to discuss the current policies and practices affecting health outcomes in the African American community. This networking opportunity provides hundreds of media professionals with vital information needed to improve coverage of health stories and to get to the economic and social dynamics that impact African American health. Journalists and media professionals will leave with resources to inform and empower readers and viewers.

Previous keynote presenters at the conference have included; Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, U.S. Surgeon General Regina Benjamin, M.D., Former U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher, M.D., Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children's Defense Fund, and Phill Wilson, founder of the Black AIDS Institute.

Topics addressed at the Media Institute will include understanding and covering the social determinants of health, creative community solutions to health care access and prevention, updates to the Affordable Care Act, HIV/AIDS in the black community, mental health, childhood obesity, and understanding studies and data
