2019 NABJ Founders Scholarship: Norma Adams-Wade

This year, the NABJ Founders Scholarship is given out in NABJ Founder Norma Adams-Wade's name to honor her contributions to the association. Norma Adams-Wade knew she wanted to be a journalist from an early age. Starting as editor of her high school newspaper, Adams-Wade’s career included positions at the Dallas Post Tribune and The Dallas Morning News.  


Essay topic (800-1000 words): “What is the importance of Norma Adams-Wade’s role as an NABJ founder and her impact as a leader in the industry?”


Applicants must:

  • Be a current NABJ member;
  • Be a student who is currently enrolled full-time at an accredited college/university in the U.S.;
  • Major in journalism with a concentration in print, and career aspirations of being a print journalist;
  • Meet the cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher requirement verified on an official transcript;
  • Have at least one year of school remaining at the time of the application submission;
  • Submit a resume and a one-page cover letter;
  • Submit five writing and/or work samples (e.g., articles, video clips, photos, or personal website); and,
  • Provide three references.
