In partnership with NABJ, ABC News is launching the 2019 NABJ/ABC NEWS Summer Internship. Applications will be accepted through April 19, 2019.  

At ABC News, you’ll help us tell stories that touch millions of people around the globe and use new ways for us to connect with the world. Now is your opportunity to unleash your skills!

As an intern at ABC News, you will perform a variety of editorial and production duties that are invaluable to one of our many shows and platforms. Some of the departments or shows you could be working for are Good Morning America, World News Tonight with David Muir, 20/20, Nightline, abcnews.com and The View.

You will play an integral role behind the scenes to manage the enormous flow of information that comes in every day.

A day in the life:

  • Assisting staff with all aspects of production
  • Booking, story development and research
  • Covering breaking news, logging and transcribing
  • Coordinating administrative duties within the office
  • Shoot prep, shoot assistance and editing support

What you bring to the role:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Passion for news stories
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Strong, detail-oriented work ethic, self-motivation, and a positive attitude

Program details:

  • NABJ will review applications and submit them to ABC News.
  • Programming during the summer includes speaker events with ABC News leaders and networking opportunities with recruiters for full-time positions.
  • A stipend toward housing, based on location, may be available.
  • The internship will be paid and held for 12 weeks, between May and September (rate will be discussed at the time of offer).

Student Classification: Undergraduate or Graduate
Internship Type: Paid | 12 weeks | 40 hours per week
Locations: New York or Washington, D.C.


Eligibility:

  • All candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Must be an NABJ student member
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class – OR – be a recent graduate of an accredited college or university within the last six (6) months
  • Must have previous internship experience, in either print or broadcast
  • Must major in journalism/communications with an interest in pursuing a career in journalism
  • Some experience related to social media including Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and YouTube
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office with an emphasis in MS Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Undergraduate students must be in their junior or senior year

  • Cover Letter
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Essay: "In 150-200 words, state why you want to pursue a career in broadcast journalism and what you hope to gain from an internship at ABC News."
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Official College Transcript
  • Resume
  • Three (3) work samples (can include a combination of writing, audio, articles, video clips, photos, or personal website and on-camera work. Audio and on-camera samples should be no more than five minutes in length each.)
