NABJ Congratulates Member Alicia Quarles on her New Role with E! Entertainment Network

Washington, DC  (March 23, 2012) -- The National Association of Black Journalists would like to congratulate the Associated Press' Alicia Quarles on her new position with E! Entertainment Network.

Quarles who is currently the AP's Global Entertainment Editor will serve as a correspondent for E! News and is also expected to make appearances on other NBC Universal entities such as NBC, MSNBC and Bravo. The veteran multiplatform journalist has helped spearhead entertainment coverage for the wire service since late 2009, while continuing to cover major entertainment events, and offering pop culture commentary and analysis for numerous outlets.

She has been with the AP for nearly nine years since joining the company after graduating from the University of Southern California. Among her most noteworthy work is her recent reporting on the death of singer Whitney Houston, and earlier coverage of pop star Michael Jackson's death. She has also been a host of red carpet interviews for the Oscars and the Grammy's.  "We wish Alicia nothing but the best in her new role," said NABJ President Gregory Lee. Alicia has a clear understanding of the importance of telling stories across platforms. As an entertainment journalist she finds compelling ways to relay to people information about some of the most talked about stories of the day."NABJ wishes Quarles much success on her new role.

An advocacy group established in 1975 in Washington, D.C., NABJ is the largest organization for journalists of color in the nation, and provides career development as well as educational and other support to its members worldwide.
