MINNEAPOLIS, MN (August, 6, 2015) – This evening the Hilton Minneapolis briefed National Association of Black Journalists President Bob Butler, Executive Director Darryl Matthews, Sr. and convention leadership of a situation in the Convention host property. Currently the 22nd floor of the hotel is on lockdown per the Minneapolis Police Department. Minneapolis Police have told us there is no threat to the public, but they are prohibiting guests from returning to their rooms on that floor at this time.

To accommodate impacted guests, the Hilton Minneapolis is offering free accommodations at nearby sister property the Marquette Hotel (710 S. Marquette Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55402), as well as transportation to the hotel.

We have determined that 30 people registered with the NABJ room block are impacted. If you are affected, please see the front desk to make arrangements to relocate.

We do not have any additional information on this matter at this time. NABJ leadership is working with the Hilton Minneapolis to ensure our guests are as comfortable as possible during this unfortunate situation.

An advocacy group established in 1975 in Washington, D.C., NABJ is the largest organization for journalists of color in the nation, and provides career development as well as educational and other support to its members worldwide.
