WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 7, 2015) — The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) applauds member Lester Holt for his ongoing work as substitute anchor of NBC Nightly News.

Since February, Holt has ably anchored NBC’s flagship evening newscast bringing a calming presence and needed stability, along with his signature intelligence, confidence and charm during a difficult time
for the broadcast network.

“Lester is a talented journalist who has proven time and time again that he has an ability to both anchor in the studio or in the field, because he is a naturally gifted reporter,” said NABJ President Bob Butler. “In a difficult time for his network he has stepped up and viewers have responded tuning in to the news delivered by an able newsman.”

Prior to this most current assignment Lester anchored three of the network’s programs “Weekend Nightly News”, “Weekend Today”, and “Dateline.”

He remains one of less than a dozen African-Americans to anchor a news program for one of the major television networks.

We continue to wish Mr. Holt much success and am confident that he will continue to be one of the nation’s premiere anchors for years to come.

An advocacy group established in 1975 in Washington, D.C., NABJ is the largest organization for journalists of color in the nation, and provides career development as well as educational and other support
to its members worldwide.
