Students, Journalists, Entrepreneurs and Media Professionals Will Meet to Focus on Changes in Journalism

WASHINGTON, DC (September 3, 2014) — The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) will host the 2014 Region 1 Conference on Saturday, October 4 starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Tropicana Casino & Resort, 2831 Boardwalk, Atlantic City, N.J. 08401

At this conference, NABJ will welcome members from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire. In addition, this conference will allow journalists seen on broadcast outlets and viewed in the various forms of print and online media to enhance their skills and acquire new more during the event.

"This program gives NABJ members valuable training that they need to compete for jobs in the digital age," said NABJ President Bob Butler. “You will learn what it takes to be called an expert, how to dig deep for investigative stories and how to leverage your smart phone to produce compelling journalism."
NABJ has teamed up with the Atlantic City Alliance, the title sponsor of the Region 1 Conference, which is being held in conjunction with the 2014 NABJ Media Institute for Media Professionals on Friday, October 3, also at the Tropicana Casino & Resort.

This year's conference theme is "The Winning Hand: Leading, Learning & Leveraging in Journalism & Media” and will feature diverse programming for journalists, media professionals, entrepreneurs and students.

"I’m happy to produce a regional conference for NABJ for the second consecutive year,” said Sherlon Christie, NABJ’s Region 1 Director. “Now, more than ever, journalists need the digital, investigative and mobile tools to produce compelling work and journalists need to be able to speak authoritatively on the topics they cover.”

Conference attendees will have the opportunity to network with other journalists, media professionals, entrepreneurs and students in workshops that will cover topics such as “How to be viewed as an expert,” “Leveraging all platforms to do cutting edge journalism,” “Using your mobile device to create a multimedia story,” and “Improving your investigative reporting skills on your beat.”
