Dear NABJ Family,

Thank you for entrusting me with NABJ's future and for all the well wishes after an exciting election. Now it is time to get down to business.  Please take a look at the committees listed here on our website  andplease email me and let me know what you are passionate about doing for NABJ and how you want to serve. I am looking for new committee chairs and members. I am specifically looking for strong leaders for the membership, development, and communications committees.

Do you have fresh ideas regarding our mission, membership, and money? We will tackle membership recruitment efforts expeditiously. We will hold true to our mission and effectively advocate for black journalists. We will also continue our revenue upswing by seeking out diverse sponsorship opportunities.

I am also looking to fill Regional Director positions for Regions I, II and V. Regional Directors are responsible for governing their respective regions and assisting chapters in their region. The Region V Director will need to assist greatly with our 2012 Convention in New Orleans, June 20-24, just nine short months away:

Region I: Responsible for the region which covers the east-coast seaboard from Pennsylvania up to Maine;

Region II: Responsible for the states of Delaware, Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia;

Region V: Responsible for the states of Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

Again, please email me if interested,  or if you have recommendations for any of these positions.

I would like to thank those who participated in the Philadelphia convention and thank the Philadelphia Chapter for hosting us. Our time together helped spark increased enthusiasm in NABJ which led to many members rededicating themselves to the organization. With more than 2,500 attendees we exceeded our projections. I'm getting great reviews! We welcome all feedback so we can make New Orleans 2012 a great convention as well.

I also would like to express my enthusiasm for the talented board who recently took office. This board represents a cross-section of the industry with a blend of veterans, NABJ babies and young journalists who represent the future of our organization.

Please look around your newsrooms and offices and encourage coworkers to rejoin or join NABJ. We need our illustrious organization now more than ever!
