NABJ-NAHJ Joint National Convention Update
We are getting overwhelming feedback asking usnotto cancel the convention.We hear you, but yourSAFETYcomes first. At this moment, we are committed and still planning for the Washington, D.C. convention in July. We will continue to monitor developments and will follow local, state and national guidelines when it comes to determining the final decision on the event.For example, Washington, D.C., like many of your cities, currently prohibits gatherings of more than 10 people. The D.C. prohibition continues through April 24. It is likely to be extended depending on COVID-19 developments. You should also note that the Marriott Wardman Park and overflow Omni hotels are closed until June 1.
We will make our final decision far in advance of the July 8-12 convention. You’ll have more than a month to adjust your plans. That allows you to get good airfares at least 30 days ahead of the convention.
We have some options for the convention, if we have to decide to move or cancel it.It is premature to put specifics of those plans in the atmosphere because we don’t want to add confusion to what is already a complex crisis that is impacting all of our lives. We are proceeding as if we are having the convention in July at the Wardman.If that changes, you will know weeks, if not months in advance.
