Urgent Message: Residence Inn by Marriott Hotel Concerns
Dear Valued NABJ Member/Convention Participant:
The Residence Inn by Marriott Miami Aventura Mall, a Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) recommended facility located across the street from the host hotel, informed us that a renovation project, that they did not previously disclose to us, would not be completed by the NABJ Convention. Therefore, our Convention attendees will not be able to be housed there.
We have certainly communicated that this is unacceptable. What is more concerning to us is that this is the second instance of an unexpected renovation issue with a Marriott facility that has created an inconvenience for our members and partners. The availability of overflow facilities was a major factor in going with the host hotel when the Board approved the host facility in early 2018.
So, here’s what is currently happening to accommodate those who had reservations at the Residence Inn by Marriott. We have met with the hotel property and urged them to make appropriate accommodations for our members and participants, this includes securing new rooms at reduced rates, free breakfast and bus transportation to and from the host hotel. Residence Inn management has confirmed that they have begun transferring reservations to the Hollywood Beach Marriott Hotel.
See the notice at the end of this communication for information on next steps for those impacted.
We have been vocal with our displeasure at the highest level of management, but unfortunately, there are no other hotels available that can accommodate the reservation bookings/NABJ block from the Residence Inn hotel. We have also checked with the remaining recommended overflow hotels to make sure there are no other undisclosed issues that would inconvenience our members, attendees and partners.
Upon successful placement of those who were inconvenienced by the Residence Inn renovations, we would be happy to provide the appropriate contact for Marriott hotel ownership for members who would like to express their concerns at a later date. For now, our focus is to first make sure that everyone who reserved a room is placed in the new facility and we want to ensure nothing detours this process. As of today, we have been informed by Hollywood Beach that the transition process is moving forward as expected.
Here’s what you need to know if you were impacted:
  • All guests will receive a new confirmation number via email for the Hollywood Beach location beginning today.
  • After receiving your confirmation number, please contact Hollywood Beach’s Central Reservations at (855) 314-1984 to ensure your credit card information is on file.
  • You may contact Group Reservations Coordinator Shantal McFarlane at Hollywood Beach for questions or updates regarding your reservations after you have received your confirmation and contacted Central Reservations.
Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to NABJ!
Yours in Service,
Drew Berry
