Here are 10 things that I think you should know about #NABJ18....

NABJ is offering a limited number of hardship complimentary #NABJ18 convention registrations. Deadline to apply is July 6 and information can be found
here.

TRAVEL WITH EASE: NABJ has helped facilitate savings by arranging for discounted travel codes via American Airlines, Delta and United Airlines. We've also secured a coupon on shuttle service to and from the airport via Skoot. Our room block at the Marriott hotel is sold out. You may call the hotel to see if there are any specific room nights available, but in short, we are at capacity at the host hotel. NABJ has arranged for overflow rooms at the Greektown Casino-Hotel. 3. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: The convention program is top-notch. This year, our plenaries cover important topics, such as: technology and digital; race, politics and social justice; and entrepreneurship and branding. Tyler Perry will join us for a special masterclass on branding on Friday. The Intercept's Shaun King will participate on the W.E.B. DuBois plenary. Retha Hill, Roland Martin, Facebook's Simone Oliver and tech enthusiast Jaylen Bledsoe will provide hands-on digital tips and innovation insights on the newsmaker tech plenary. Don't forget to journey to the Innovation Bubble to receive hands-on digital tips and demonstrations.
4. GET A JOB: Two words for our career fair - sold out. Our career fair is the largest journalism jobs fair in the United States, and we are working feverishly to present a second careers location to bring you access to even more media employers and jobs. If you are a journalist/media professional looking for a job or an aspiring journalist/media professional, you need to pack those resumes and business cards, and be at the NABJ Career Fair. BLACK EXCELLENCE in MEDIA: #NABJ18 will honor the best journalism this year at our signature Salute to Excellence program, and bestow the Journalist of the Year Award upon Jemele Hill and hand out multiple other noteworthy awards. NABJ will induct five amazing professionals into its
2018 Hall of Fame class: Albert J. Dunmore, Victoria Jones, Louis Martin, William C. Rhodes and Bob Ray Sanders. Other special honors winners announced to date include: Natasha S. Alford - Emerging Journalist, Wynona Redmond - Media Professional Award, Robert G. McGruder - Legacy, Rhonda Walker - Community Service, Beverly White - Lifetime, and Everett L. 9. BLACK ART & IMAGES: The Visual Task Force Auction is a convention mainstay. Plan to attend this year's auction on Saturday, Aug. 4 and purchase images from some of the top news photographers in the country. Proceeds benefit student scholarships and professional development programming for visual journalists.
10. AUTHORS SHOWCASE TOPS 30+: The NABJ Author's Showcase is on fleek this year. We've got more than 30 authors who will be sharing their new works and providing inspiration during the carousel of author's signings and events.
Detroit is going through a renaissance. Come witness this lovely city firsthand. With so many most exciting community developments in this Comeback City - that boasts a burgeoning food and restaurant scene, there are plenty of things to do and enjoy in the walkable downtown area.
