The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) President Sarah Glover has appointed Maria Douglas Reeve, a long-time member and accomplished journalist, as program chair for its 2018 Convention and Career Fair, which will take place Aug. 1-5 in Detroit. Reeve, a celebrated and veteran journalist, is the assistant managing editor for news at the Star Tribune of Minneapolis.

As this year’s convention program chair, Reeve will lead content strategy and workshop development for the convention and career fair which hosts more than 3,000 journalists from across the country.

Reeve has served as a national board member and regional director of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), where she also co-chaired the program planning committee for SPJ’s 1995 national convention.

Reeve’s career covers noteworthy roles at the St. Paul Pioneer Press for nearly two decades, including St. Paul City Hall reporter, Minnesota State Capitol reporter, and consumer affairs columnist. She has also served as editor in charge of the Pioneer Press’ coverage of the 2008 Republican National Convention.

Reeve is currently president of the Twin Cities Black Journalists, and an active board member of Spare Key, a local nonprofit providing assistance to families in crisis with critically ill or seriously injured children.

President Glover says that Reeve will bring key strategy to the #NABJ18 Convention and Career Fair. “Maria Reeve's savvy journalism skills, management experience, and longtime commitment to NABJ as a servant and leader make her a dynamic choice for NABJ Convention program chair. We are in great hands with Maria leading the team that will present strong workshops featuring tech, digital and hot topics,” said Glover.

#NABJ18 Convention and Career Fair will be held at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center, Aug. 1-5 in Detroit.
