Georgia Dawkins assumes the role of Membership Chair

Washington, DC, October 19, 2012The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) announces the appointment  of Sherlon Christie,  a sports reporter for The Asbury Park Press as NABJ's new Region I Director.

The appointment was made this week by NABJ President Gregory Lee following Mara Schiavocampo's decision to step down due to a variety of commitments.

"NABJ is lucky to have Sherlon be able to step into this role as Region I Director. I am confident that he will host a successful regional conference, and as a Boston-native,  help the Boston chapter prepare to host NABJ's Convention and Career Fair in 2014," Lee said. "I thank Mara for her service and for enthusiastically collaborating with chapters and members to help energize and inspire them over the course of the last year."

Christie has served the organization as President of the Garden State Chapter, and most recently as National Membership Chair.  In lieu of his new duties, Georgia Dawkins, a producer at WBBH-TV, and NABJ's former National Student Representative has agreed to serve as chair of the association's membership committee.

An advocacy group established in 1975 in Washington, D.C. NABJ is the largest organization of journalists of color in the nation and provides educational, career development and support to black journalists worldwide.
