2018 Allison E. Fisher Scholarship


Ronald and Pat Fisher partnered with NABJ to establish a scholarship in memory of their daughter Allison, who lost her battle with breast cancer at the age of 28.  Allison’s journalism career included positions at BET, PBS, Voice of America and Channel One News. 



Essay topic (800 – 1000 words): "What are three reasons you would like to pursue a career in journalism, and what do you hope to be your legacy as a journalist?"


College Students must:

  • Be a current NABJ member
  • Be a student who is currently enrolled full-time at an accredited college/university in the U.S
  • Major in journalism, media or a communications-related discipline with the interest of pursuing a career in journalism or media
  • Meet the cumulative 3.0 GPA (or higher) requirement verified on an official transcript
  • Have at least one year of school remaining at the time of the application submission 
  • Submit a resume and a one-page cover letter
  • Submit five writing and/or work samples (e.g., articles, video clips, photos, or personal website)
  • Provide three references


Number of Awards Available: 1
Amount of the Award: $2,500
Student Classification: Undergraduate or Graduate
