This year, esteemed panelists representing various outlets and organizations will discuss critical topics including: The role videographers and photographers play in creating digital media; mental health and self-care for journalists; solutions journalism and shifting the narrative around objectivity; and fighting identity discrimination in the newsroom.

10:15 a.m. Opening Session: State of the Industry
11:00 a.m. Being True to You: Navigating Discrimination in the Media Industry
This panel will explore how to authentically be yourself while being a journalist/media professional. We'll talk with trendsetters and explore topics like embracing natural hair on-air.
12:15 p.m. Taking a Beat: Practicing Self-Care as a Media Professional
Journalists see a lot of trauma and have to deal with sticky situations. This panel will explore how journalists can practice self-care and set healthy boundaries.
1:30 p.m. Lunch Break & Business Card Exchange
2:00 p.m. Millennials Killing the Game
This panel will include heavy hitters that are doing well in the industry. We'll talk about their career paths, what they expect for the industry in the future and how others can follow suit.
3:15 p.m. Objectivity & Solutions Based Journalism
This conversation will explore solutions-based journalism and its impact on the industry.
4:30 p.m. Digital Storytelling Tools
We'll hear more from panelists about tips, tricks and tools they use in their jobs on a daily basis. We hope attendees will walk away with new tools they can use in their newsrooms.
5:30 p.m. Closing Remarks

Registration Cancellation Policy

  • All requests for refunds must be submitted online through the Special Event Refund Request Form. Telephone cancellations will not be accepted.

  • Professional member registration cancellations received on or before the pre-registration deadline, will be eligible for a refund, less $10 administration fee ($5.00 for students).

  • Cancellations/refunds will not be made for requests received after pre-registration deadline. No Exceptions.

  • Refunds will be processed four to six weeks after the event.
