Johann is the News and Special Projects Editor for The Philadelphia Tribune and adjunctinstructor at Temple University.
Undergraduate: Mass Communications (Print), Southern University, Baton Rouge, La., 2001; Graduate Certificate: Communications, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pa., 2007.
Johann has worked at The Philadelphia Tribune for 10 years and has worked in the Philadelphia region for over 15 years in Bucks County and New Jersey. He supervises all enterprise features, manages the paper’s copy desk, coordinates the paper’s four neighborhood-zoned editions, and assists with digital projects.
During his term as Chapter President of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists, the organization won 2014 NABJ Professional Chapter of the Year. The chapter also won the honor in 2009 when he served as Vice-President Print. Johann also chaired PABJ’s kickoff event for 2010 NABJ in San Diego and co-chaired the opening reception for the 2011 NABJ in Philadelphia. He currently sits on the advisory board for PHLDiversity, formerly the Multicultural Affairs Congress, a component of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitor’s Bureau.
I would make an excellent candidate for NABJ Region I Director because of my experience in leading the Philadelphia NABJ chapter, having worked closely with NABJ executive members and strong familiarity with the newly-expanded Region I terrain. Aside from working in the Philadelphia region, I have written, edited and produced work for Gannett, Hearst, Tribune, Black Entertainment Television and Johnson Publishing companies in Washington D.C., Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.
