Application Deadline: Friday, July 12, 2013
One of the most challenging jobs in any television newsroom is that of
the line producer. It is also one of the hardest positions to fill.
From creating a show rundown, writing well-crafted scripts, making
crucial editorial decisions, to managing staff both on and off the air,
the job of a producer is multifaceted.
In this interactive workshop veteran news directors will work with
participants to shape them into better writers, producers and managers.
Producers will submit an application that includes a resume and a link
to a telescoped version of his/her newscast, complete with teases and
transitions. (Newscast should be uploaded to file-sharing site such as
Youtube, Vimeo or a personal website)
Depending on the number of applications, the panelists will select up to 24 participants.
Each news director will work with a group of four producers, reviewing
each participant’s newscast. The producer will explain the
thought-process behind his/her decisions. The news director and other
producers will do an in-depth examination of each newscast.
The day will also include discussions on how to prepare for advancement
from producer to executive producer, how to have difficult conversations
and general networking tips.
Each producer will leave with a better understanding of how to create more compelling newscasts.
Due to the large number of applications, only those selected for the
program will be contacted. The final decision notification will be sent
To apply, members must complete and submit the application below by Friday, July 12, 2013.
