Sandra Long Wins Knight Ridder Award

Long, a deputy managing editor at The Philadelphia Inquirer and a NABJ founding member, won the 2004 James K. Batten Knight Ridder Excellence Award for Operational Excellence. The letter nominating Sandra said her "journalistic instinct complements her innate ability to see through the bureaucracy and get to the heart of overseeing the (newspaper's) operations." Long also strives to ensure the paper's coverage is diverse, colleagues said.
