Voices of Anger, Cries of Concern
Some NABJ Views of the Retention Problem and Some Solutions
When we learned in early April 2001 that the American Society of Newspapers Editors would confirm in its annual diversity survey that more black journalists are leaving the industry than entering, clearly more than a news release was needed.
NABJ quickly served notice that "this trend cannot be tolerated." We presented Voices of Anger, Cries of Concern on April 5, 2001 during a plenary session entitled, "Advice on Keeping the Best and Brightest Minorities in Newsrooms," at ASNE's convention, held at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C.
