NABJ Announces the 2008 Salute to Excellence Awards Finalists
Lifetime Achievement Award to be presented to TV reporter Harry Porterfield; Miami Herald columnist Leonard Pitts Jr. to be honored as Journalist of the Year
Washington, D.C. – The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) announced today the finalists for the 2008 Salute to Excellence Awards Competition. The competition honors work from print, television, radio, online, and photojournalism. Winners will be announced Saturday, July 26, 2008 at a gala celebration during the UNITY: Journalists of Color convention in Chicago. The event will be hosted by broadcasters Kevin Frazier and Diann Burns.
“We’re very excited about this year’s finalists for our national media awards,” said NABJ President Barbara Ciara. “It was a challenge for our awards committee to select finalists from all of the exemplary work submitted by journalists across the country, but this difficult task of choosing the best is a testament to the abundance of talent we have in our profession.”
This year we are honored to bestow the Lifetime Achievement Award to veteran Chicago Broadcast Journalist Harry Porterfield.
NABJ is also pleased to award Miami Herald columnist Leonard Pitts Jr. with the Journalist of the Year Award.
