Presidential Candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton to Speak at NABJ Convention & Career Fair in Las Vegas

Washington, D.C. July 13, 2007 Presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton will address members of the National Association of Black Journalists at the 32nd NABJ Convention & Career Fair, Aug. 8-12 at Ballys Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, the association and her campaign jointly announced today.
With more than 3,000 media professionals expected to attend, the convention will be the largest gathering of journalists of color in the United States this year. Clinton's appearance on Thursday, Aug. 9 will be part of a two-day discussion, A Conversation with Americas Candidates." Sen. Barack Obama will speak on Friday, Aug. 10. The events will be sponsored by Microsoft Corporation and AOL Black Voices.
We are excited to have Sen. Clinton join us for the convention, said NABJ President Bryan Monroe, vice president and editorial director of Ebony and Jet magazines in Chicago. Our members have a lot to ask her about the state of our nation, her views on Black America and the role of a free and unfettered press.
In the past few years, President George W. Bush, former President Bill Clinton, Sen. John Kerry, former Secretary of State Colin Powell and current Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice have addressed NABJ journalists at conventions.
I care passionately about the big issues we face in this country," said Senator Clinton. "After 35 years of working on issues like education, health care, and racial equality I am ready to lead and look forward to the opportunity to speak with the 3,000-plus members of the NABJ about my vision and plan for improving the lives of the American people," she concluded.
This years NABJ convention themed Revolutionizing Journalism, Transforming the Future will emphasize changes in the media industry and how journalists can position themselves for the next decade and beyond. In addition to the opening session on Politics and Campaign 08, the five-day gathering will feature major discussions on race, inclusion and the media with leaders in the news industry and a spirited debate on the role of entertainers and the media spotlight.
An advocacy group established in 1975 in Washington, D.C., NABJ is the largest organization of journalists of color in the nation, with more than 4,100 members, and provides educational, career development and support to black journalists worldwide.
