NABJ Announces the 2007 Salute to Excellence Awards Finalists
Lifetime Achievement Award to be presented to former CNN anchor Bernard Shaw; Washington Bureau Chief of the New York Times Dean Baquet to be honored as Journalist of the Year
Washington, D.C.-July 5, 2007-The National Association of Black Journalists announced today the finalists for the 2007 Salute to Excellence Awards Competition the annual awards that recognize exemplary coverage of people or issues of interest to blacks in America and around the world.
The competition honors work from print, television, radio, online, and photojournalism. Winners will be announced at the 32nd NABJ Convention and Career Fair in Las Vegas, Aug. 8-12.
Once again we salute the best in journalism and black America, and this year we were again impressed with the richness and range of the finalists, said NABJ President Bryan Monroe, vice president and editorial director of Ebony and Jet magazines in Chicago.
This year, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Bernard Shaw, former CNN anchor. NABJ will also award The New York Times Washington Bureau Chief Dean Baquet with the Journalist of the Year Award.
The awards will be presented at the Salute to Excellence Awards Gala on Saturday, August 11 at Ballys Las Vegas Hotel & Casino. Maurice Dubois, anchor at WCBS-TV in New York City, will host the gala.
