NABJ Congratulates AP’s Nekesa Mumbi Moody

WASHINGTON, DC (October 14, 2011) --The Associated Press has announced a promotion for NABJ member Nekesa Mumbi Moody, who has been the AP's music writer and editor for the past decade.

Moody will retain her title, but will take an expanded role in shaping the wire service's global music report. She will manage a team of writers and producers as the AP further develops and expands its music coverage across platforms.

In a statement released by the AP, the company says Moody "has made the AP a leader in music news, from key features to reviews to breaking exclusives. She has directed coverage of events ranging from the Grammys to the entertainment at the Super Bowl, and was a lead writer in the coverage of Michael Jackson's death."

Moody is a graduate of Barnard College and has been with the AP since the start of her professional journalism career. She began as an intern in Albany, New York, and was a newsperson in that bureau for six years, covering state news, government, sports and entertainment. She became an editor on the then-general desk in 1998, and also continued to cover entertainment for the AP.

Moody is also one of 28 fellows who will participate in the the USC Annenberg/Getty Arts Journalism Program's Engine 29 program, a "pop-up" arts journalism lab being held in Los Angeles from November 4 to November 13. According to a release from the program, Moody and the other fellows will work collaboratively on six experimental journalism projects that were competitively chosen and focused on art criticism, audience engagement, investigative cultural reporting, innovative technology and new forms of storytelling.
