Benét Wilson is an old-school print reporter who is transforming herself into a 21st century journalist.
Benét J. Wilson Online Managing Editor-Business Aviation Aviation Week Group Washington, DC
co-chair, Digital Journalism Task Force
When I became a reporter in 1985, we were still using manual typewriters. I remember how all print reporters was needed an ink pen, a pad and a passion for digging to get the story. But the industry has changed, and I realized if I wanted to survive - and thrive - I would have to adapt.
The
training I've received from NABJ since 2006 has been invaluable. I feel
it has been an important part of the reason why I have managed not only
to keep my job during several rounds of layoffs, but actually get a
promotion.
I'm currently the online managing editor for
McGraw-Hill's Aviation Week business aviation channel. I write for The
Weekly of Business Aviation, the business channel of the online premium
Aviation Week Intelligence network, the free AviationWeek.com web site
and the Business Aviation Now blog. I'm also a contributor to Aviation
Daily and the Things With Wings blog.
I was previously airports/security editor for Aviation Daily. I created and wrote the Towers
and Tarmacs blog and contributed to the Things with Wings blogs. I
also wrote Commuter/Regional Airline News for almost 10 years.
Benet - your insight and sharing are greatly valued. Thanks for sharing your knowledge in the DJTF blogs and other announcements. And thanks for sharing your story with all NABJ members! It's a testament and a testimony. -Deborah Harrison
