Anyone who knows Sheila Brooks knows that you don’t have to wonder about what’s on her
mind. Not only is she known for her candor and business acumen, she is also known for her love for NABJ.
That love for NABJ resulted in the donation of $10,000 in student scholarship money courtesy of SRB Communications, LLC. Sheila is the founder, president and CEO of SRB.
In celebration of her company’s 20th Anniversary, Sheila hosted a star-studded golf tournament in the DC area a few weeks before the NABJ San Diego convention along with Roland Martin, and NABJ founder Maureen Bunyan. NABJ board member Charles Robinson and two former NABJ presidents, Arthur Fennell and Herb Lowe also attended the event. Proceeds from the golf tournament funded the NABJ student scholarships.
In addition to an avid NABJ supporter, Sheila is an Emmy-award winning journalist, entrepreneur, and is a dedicated advocate for minority and women’s issues and small businesses. She was involved in a popular entrepreneurship workshop at the San Diego convention along with Roland Martin. She is also helping spearhead the October 16 Media Institute at University of Maryland, College Park. Entrepreneurship, public relations and hot button news issues are the thrust of next months Media Institute.
NABJ applauds members like Sheila who demonstrate their commitment to the organization’s longevity and its mission. Members are urged to remember NABJ in their estate planning and wills so that the organization can continue to provide quality programming and training for many years to come.
