NABJ launches search for new executive director

Dear NABJ Member,
I am writing this letter to inform you that after more than three
years of service, Karen Wynn Freeman has resigned as Executive Director
of the National Association of Black Journalists. We wish her well in
her future endeavors.
Freeman's career highlights include helping to revitalize the
national organization and strengthen ties with members, supporters, and
sponsors. In the interim, she will be working with media consultant,
Drew Berry, to close existing business and retain partnerships.
Berry is assisting in the management of the national office and will
also assist us in our search for a new executive director. Berry is a
former NABJ Finance Committee Chairman with more than 30 years of
experience in journalism and media management. He has served on a
variety of boards and worked as a television station general manager,
news director, executive producer, reporter and photojournalist. His
consulting work has earned him respect in the journalism field and a
Congressional Achievement Award for Business Achievement.
NABJ is opening its search for a new full-time Executive Director.
The search committee is being led by Condace Pressley, former NABJ
President and Assistant Program Director of News/talk 750 WSB
(Atlanta).
The new director will be pivotal in working with the Board of
Directors as NABJ works through these difficult times with renewed
emphasis on fundraising, entrepreneurial journalism, and professional
development.
I have been proud to witness countless dedicated members working to
strengthen NABJ's legacy as the organization most committed to the
careers of black journalists worldwide.
This has been especially important during our country's historic
economic turmoil and the ongoing news of our colleagues forced to leave
our industry. I will schedule a Web town hall meeting soon to give you a
status report on NABJ's finances and other developments.
