WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 7, 2015) — The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) congratulates member Nia-Malika Henderson on her new position as a senior political reporter for CNN.
At CNN Henderson will specialize in covering identity politics focusing extensively on how cultural identifiers such as gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status influence politics for CNN’s digital platform as well as for television.
Henderson has been a reporter for The Washington Post since 2010. Most recently she was responsible for “covering the intersection of politics with culture, demography and emerging sources of power” for “The Fix,” The Post’s daily political blog. She also previously hosted the paper’s in-depth web interview show “On Background.”
Well-known in the world of political journalism she has appeared extensively on CNN, Fox, MSNBC, and PBS, offering insight and analysis on various national political stories.
Earlier in her career she was a White House reporter for POLITICO, a local government reporter for Newsday, and a political reporter for The Baltimore Sun.
“Nia-Malika is a talented writer and an industrious reporter who constantly looks to uncover unique viewpoints, perspectives, and insights about stories the politically inclined should know about, but
also about things the everyday citizen should be aware of,” said NABJ President Bob Butler. “As we head into another presidential election year the diversity of the electorate will once again be a key area off ocus. Nia-Malika’s reporting will certainly be at the forefront.”
Henderson holds an undergraduate degree in anthropology and literature from Duke University, a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, and a master’s degree in American Studies from Yale University.
An advocacy group established in 1975 in Washington, D.C., NABJ is the largest organization for journalists of color in the nation, and provides career development as well as educational and other support
