I want to thank the outgoing board members for their service to NABJ and their
commitment to every one of our members. Their hard work and sacrifice
has made this organization stronger and has made an impact in newsrooms
across this country.
I would also like to commend all of the candidates in this year’s
election for their dedication to NABJ and hard-fought campaigns. We all
care very deeply about NABJ and I look forward to working with everyone
to move NABJ forward.
Most importantly, I would like to thank you, our members, for placing your
trust in the new Board of Directors to refresh your spirits, restore
your confidence and revitalize our NABJ.
I want to share with you our next steps.
At the business meeting on August 2, 2013, the NABJ membership voted to

get more involved with NABJ. I hope that everyone interested in serving NABJ will have an opportunity to get involved. I will refer to this database as a resource during this board's term.

This fall, we are hosting a Media Institute for Media Professionals and
Entrepreneurs on September 27, which will be followed by the Region I
Conference on September 28. Both events will be held in New York City.
Executive Director Maurice Foster and I spent this week meeting with
media companies in the San Francisco Bay Area, including current
sponsors and potential sponsors in Silicon Valley. This is in keeping
with NABJ’s missions of jobs, advocacy, and increased funding.
The next Board of Directors meeting will be held in Boston in October (exact dates to be determined).
We will keep you informed about what your Board is doing to better serve
the organization and you, our members. We look forward to providing you
with increased transparency and will continue to provide updates on our
