NABJ Announces Appointment of Sherlon Christie as Region I Director

Georgia Dawkins assumes the role of Membership Chair
Washington, DC, October 19, 2012−The National
Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) announces the appointment of Sherlon Christie, a sports reporter for The Asbury Park Press as
NABJ's new Region I Director.
The appointment was made this week by NABJ President
Gregory Lee following Mara Schiavocampo's decision to step down due to a
variety of commitments.
"NABJ is lucky to have Sherlon be able to step
into this role as Region I Director. I am confident that he will host a
successful regional conference, and as a Boston-native, help the Boston chapter prepare to host NABJ's
Convention and Career Fair in 2014," Lee said. "I thank Mara for her
service and for enthusiastically collaborating with chapters and members to
help energize and inspire them over the course of the last year."
Christie has served the organization as President of
the Garden State Chapter, and most recently as National Membership Chair. In lieu of his new duties, Georgia Dawkins, a
producer at WBBH-TV, and NABJ's former National Student Representative has
agreed to serve as chair of the association's membership committee.

organization of journalists of color in the nation and provides educational,
career development and support to black journalists worldwide.
