NABJ Mourns the Loss of Artie Williams III

WASHINGTON (August 21, 2012) --The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) mourns the loss of veteran ABC 7  (Los Angeles, CA)  cameraman Artie Williams III, who passed away while diving off of Catalina Island this past weekend.

Williams was described by his colleagues as a "real prince of a guy” with a huge heart.  He was known for providing a helping hand to other photographers, reporters and interns. His was always a friendly face to see out in the field.

To those that knew him best knew there was only one constant phrase to describe him, "a heart of gold”.  Los Angeles Lakers spokesman John Black stated,” I am very sad about it. Artie was such a great guy, always enthusiastic, friendly, and in a good mood. All of us here, who worked with him, as well as his fellow media members, will miss him."

"As bleak as many media rooms can be, you could always count on one bright light. I knew that I was always going to get a smile, I was always going to get a pleasant word, and frankly, I'm going to miss that" said L.A Times columnist T.J Simmers.

The exact cause of death is not known. Funeral arrangements are pending. NABJ extends its deepest sympathies Williams’ family.
