Overview
June 12, 2009
Dear NABJ members:
As an NABJ member, you have access to many NABJ benefits. One of the most important benefits is the opportunity, every two years, to help elect our association’s leadership and ensure its future path. Polls are now open to vote for candidates for the 2009-2011 Board of Directors.
To review the candidates’ information and platform goals, as well as the rules and deadlines, please browse through this site’s elections section. (There are no proposed amendments to the constitution for this election.)
To help provide more context for the election, NABJ member Michelle Johnson graciously agreed to provide video coverage of the Region I Conference’s Candidates’ Forum held on Saturday, May 30, at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism in New York.
You will also be able to hear directly from the candidates and ask questions during a series of Web forums held Wednesdays from 1 to 2 p.m. EST. The Web forum schedule is as follows:
June 10: Student Representative Candidates
June 17: Region IV Candidates
June 24: Region II Candidates
July 1: Secretary Candidates
July 8: Vice President-Broadcast Candidates
July 15: Presidential Candidates
July 22: Vice President-Print Candidates
Meanwhile, here is more key information about our elections.
Eligible members can cast their ballots electronically via the NABJ Web site until Election Day, Friday, Aug. 7. Better yet, members attending the convention need not wait in line on Election Day to vote. You can do so from anywhere you can get online. And if a last-minute assignment keeps you away from the convention, you can still vote online – right up until the polls close at 5 p.m. at the declared voting area in the Tampa Convention Center. Final election results will, of course, be announced soon after the polls close.
To vote, visit www.mynabj.org. Login using your member ID and password (your last name in lower case letters).
Eligible members that requested mail-in ballots by Monday, June 8, must return them postmarked by Monday, July 13 and received by the NABJ-contracted election company by Monday, July 20 to be included in the official tally.
Wednesday, July 1, is the deadline for current or lapsed full, associate and student members to renew, or for first-time members to join in hopes of voting in this year’s election via mail-in balloting before the convention in Tampa; via electronic balloting before and during the convention, and or on Election Day at the convention.
That day should be familiar. It’s the same as the pre-registration deadline for the 2009 annual NABJ convention, set for Aug. 5-9 at Tampa Convention Center.
Thank you for participating in this year’s election. Be sure to vote! And we hope to see you in Tampa!
