WHO IS THIS FOR?
This seminar is designed for journalists of color who want to play a more significant role in shaping a newscast or program as well as those who aspire to reach the upper ranks of newsroom or network management. This seminar will break through some of the myths and fallacies that have existed for years and have blocked journalists of color from achieving their full potential. This workshop is a no-holds-barred discussion of what has happened in our nations newsrooms and how individual’s can prepare themselves to tackle the challenges of being a newsroom producer and manager. The seminar will also be a “best practices” exercise to provide participants with ideas and strategies they can take back into their newsrooms and apply towards the betterment of the news organization and for their personal advancement.

Top news managers advise on how to deal with “self-doubt” issues that prevent people from taking their job skills to the next level. This frank, open and honest discussion will explore how to make sure you are on top of your game and how to translate that into team building in the newsroom.

Top producers in local and national television take a look at the “best practices” of producing. Various shows and stories will be highlighted and dissected to give participants some practical ideas to use developing stories and programs. Types of stories to be covered will include breaking news, investigative pieces, features as well as long-form programming.
Things Your Parents Never Told You: The Truth About Newsroom Politics
One of the key factors to advancement in the newsroom and in top management is knowing how to navigate the waters of newsroom politics. This session will teach participants how to recognize some of the pitfalls and how to deal with the pressures facing newsroom operations in a difficult economy.

Several news managers and producers are considering making a career change either voluntarily or involuntarily. This re-invention session will allow participants to make an assessment of their current status and look at strategies for growth, both professionally and personally.
