HOW TO MANAGE KEY MEDIA RELATIONSHIPS IN THE AGE OF SOCIAL MEDIA

Media relations used to be about getting invited to editorial board meetings, hosting journalists at week-long events so they could learn more about your organization, and finding a reason to have lunch, coffee, or dinner with journalists to build your relationship with them. Then social media entered the fray and journalists began to use that and their own content to find sources. The good old days of picking up the phone and chatting about the stories that were forthcoming to see if your organization or client was a fit are very slim and the web has changed the way we communicate. In this session, our panelists will discuss how to find your way through the social media landscape, and still make and keep the key relationships that count.

Moderator: Dawn A. Roberts, Managing Partner, KD Communications Group, NABJ Associate Representative

Panelists: Deirdre Childress Hopkins, Strategic Communications Manager, Pennsylvania Convention Center
Jeff Guaracino, Chief Communications and Strategy Officer, Atlantic City Alliance
4:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

BUZZFEED, ADVERTORIALS, & VINE, OH MY! WHAT’S UP NEXT ON THE MEDIA HORIZON?

It’s clear that the media relations landscape is changing. These days, journalists and bloggers are inundated with the pre-historic press release, and it has become a bigger challenge to get traditional media placements. The good news is that there are other ways to get your message out, so don’t be afraid to try new things! Media professionals are finding innovative and better ways to get heard. Join us as we review the top 10 hottest ways to spread your message. Also brings some tips with you to share with your colleagues.

Moderator: Melissa Thompson, Social and Online Media Coordinator, Health Partners Plans
