Journalists, media and communication professionals and students are invited to participate in the 2015 National Association of Black Journalists Region VI Conference, March 13-14, in Oakland, California!

The event – which takes place at the Waterfront Hotel in Oakland's Jack London Square - will begin with a Friday night mixer reception at Lungamore's @ Jack London Square followed by a full day of workshops, which will offer information and discussion on the impact and future of technology in the media and communications industries. Saturday's sessions will end with a dinner/dance open to all participants.

We hope you will join us in the sunny San Francisco Bay Area - and make it a mini-vacation, too!

For more information, contact NABJ Region VI Director Michelle Fitzhugh-Craig at (415)633-6327 or mfcnews@yahoo.com.

Region VI Regional Conference
“Journalism & Technology: The Next Frontier”

Social/Online Networking – Does it work?
Looking for new job or possible promotion? Do you want a social networking platform that does more than “shoot the breeze?” Sites like LinkedIn, SkillPages and MeetUp are become more popular – not just for their to connect people, but to allow users to create a professional network of friends they trust who can help him or her learn new skills, hold discussions on business-related topics and even climb the corporate ladder.

PR/Marketing/Communications – Is it really the 'Dark Side?'
Whether you’re a journalist thinking about being a public relations professional or visa versa, both professions can consider the other as ‘the dark side’.  However, just think about it.  It is really ‘the dark side’.  There is light down both career paths and they go hand-in-hand most time.

Using Social Media to Report Your Story
Social media began as a fun way to connect with friends and family; very few journalists took it seriously. Today, reporters around the globe use the online communication tool to cover stories like Occupy Oakland, #Ferguson and @HiddenCash, to name a few. Can credible information and sources be found on Twitter, Facebook and other sites? And what tools are out there to aggregate posts to create news sites and information blogs that many use to get their news?

Innovations in Media - Being prepared for the future
As quickly as one new platform or online tool becomes popular, another one takes its place. What is hot now, what’s on the horizon and how could it benefit you professionally and personally.
