The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) will host the Region I Conference on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City in New Jersey. Hosted by NABJ's Region I Director and local chapter leaders, this year's conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will feature diverse programming for freelance and transitioning journalists, public relations practitioners, entrepreneurs and students. Conference attendees will have the opportunity to network with other journalists, public relations professionals and entrepreneurs in workshops that will cover topics such as how to be viewed as an expert, leveraging all platforms to do cutting edge journalism and to build your career, using your mobile device to create a multimedia story, and improving your investigative reporting skills.

PRODUCING INVESTIGATIVE STORIES WHILE COVERING YOUR BEAT - #WATCHDOG14Have an idea for a great investigative story but can never find the time to do it because you have to cover your beat? Then this course is for you. This session will walk participants through the investigate process from start to finish. During the session, participants will learn how to come up with ideas for an investigative story, strategies for location documents and gaining access to public records, internet tools for digging deeper, managing your time during an investigation and writing the investigative story.Panelists: Ron Nixon, Washington Correspondent, New York Times
