The journalism industry has seen rapid growth of hyperlocal websites. These websites, which focus on local communities are seen as an effort to fill the gap in local news coverage as other media outlets cut their resources in this niche. We will discuss the past, present and future of hyperlocal websites with four NABJ members who are in the trenches.

  • Dr. Michelle Ferrier, associate professor at Elon University in the School of Communications and developer of "", a hyperlocal community platform and service model focused on local food conversations.
  • Holly Edgell, one of two regional editors for in Metro St. Louis.
  • Shawn P. Williams, founder of now known as Dallas South
  • Mike Green is a journalist-turned-entrepreneur who led award-winning online experiments in local community engagement for the Dow Jones Local Media Group.
