NABJ Chapter Day Tools for Improving your Chapter Wednesday, August 3, 2005 8 a.m. 3 p.m. NABJ is providing an all-day training session for professional chapter leaders. The days itinerary will feature lectures, panels and workshops to help chapters improve various aspects of planning, from fundraising to grooming new leaders and providing diversity advocacy. The event is open to all chapter leaders, not only presidents. Student chapter leaders are also encouraged to attend. Click here to RSVP by July 22.
Spirit in the Words Poetry Contest This event sponsored by DaimlerChrysler Corporation helps to showcase the creativity of aspiring poets and writers who will complete for prizes. The reception will be hosted from 8:30 p.m., followed by the poetry program at 9:15 p.m. NABJ Idol Search We know there are a lot of journalism stars in NABJ. The NABJ Board of Directors voted to induct Charles Teenie Harris (posthumously), former Negro League baseball player who became a prolific photographer for The Pittsburgh Courier; Charlayne Hunter-Gault, CNN's former Johannesburg bureau chief/correspondent; Max Robinson (posthumously), NABJ co-founder and first black journalist to anchor a nightly network newscast; and Carole Simpson, former longtime anchor of ABC's "World News Tonight Sunday."
