Black journalists face challenges in the newsroom from editors and management, and from the demands of listeners, viewers and readers. Technological advances have had and will have a significant impact on the way journalists report and present the news.The NABJ convention program will focus on enhancing journalists skills and helping them to adapt to an ever-changing environment.
We hope to empower black journalists by providing them with resources and tools to enhance their skills. Our program track system is designed to make it easier for convention attendees to focus on specific interest areas. The nine tracks are:
Broadcast related to all broadcast media (television or radio).
Career Development to assist black journalists in realizing career objectives and developing a career path to meet these objectives.
Hot Topics focused on late-breaking developments and controversial issues.
Management related to managers and those seeking to become managers.
New Media related to the Internet, new technology and convergence.
Ownership focused on media and communications ownership and self-employment.
Print related to print journalism (newspapers or magazines).
Special Interest related to subspecialties (i.e. copy editing, meteorology, sports journalism, business writing, health/medical reporting, environmental reporting, etc.).
Young Journalists heavy emphasis on professional development of students and journalists with five or less years' experience.
