2008 NABJ Awards

This year, NABJ will recognize the outstanding work of journalists through three major awards programs-Hall of Fame, Special Honors and Salute to Excellence. For information about the awards and submission guidelines, select the categories listed below:

NABJ Hall of Fame

* NABJ Hall of Fame
Legendary black journalists who have made outstanding contributions to journalism are inducted to the NABJ Hall of Fame. Seven distinguished journalists became charter members on April 5, 1990. Nominations are approved by the NABJ Board of Directors. Installation of new members will be announced at the NABJ Hall of Fame Inductions & Banquet, Thursday, July 22nd at the UNITY: Journalists of Color Convention and Career Expo in Chicago.

Salute to Excellence

* Salute to Excellence
NABJ recognizes journalism that best covered the black experience or addressed . The 2008 winners will be honored at the Salute to Excellence Awards Gala on Saturday, July 26, at the UNITY: Journalists of Color Convention and Career Expo in Chicago.

Special Honors

* Special Honors
NABJ's most coveted awards honor journalists for groundbreaking accomplishments ranging from lifetime achievement, to journalist of the year, to extraordinary performance in the face of extreme adversity, and more. Honorees will be recognized at NABJ Special Events during the UNITY: Journalists of Color Convention and Career Expo in Chicago.

Ida B. Wells Award

* Ida B. Wells Award
NABJ and the National Conference of Editorial Writers (NCEW) jointly and proudly each year give the prestigious Ida B. Wells Award to a media executive or manager who has made outstanding efforts to make newsrooms and news coverage more accurately reflect the diversity of the communities they serve.
