This year, NABJ will recognize the outstanding work of journalists
through three major awards programs-Hall of Fame, Special Honors and
Salute to Excellence.
Legendary black journalists who have made outstanding contributions to
journalism are inducted to the NABJ Hall of Fame. Seven distinguished
journalists became charter members on April 5, 1990. Nominations are
approved by the NABJ Board of Directors. IInstallation of new members will be announced at the NABJ Hall of Fame Inductions & Banquet, Friday, August 7, at the NABJ Convention and Career Fair in Tampa.”
NABJ recognizes journalism that best covered the black experience or
addressed . The 2009 winners will be honored at the Salute to Excellence Awards Gala on Saturday, August 8, at the NABJ Convention and Career Fair in Tampa.
NABJ's most coveted awards honor journalists for groundbreaking
accomplishments ranging from lifetime achievement, to journalist of the
year, to extraordinary performance in the face of extreme adversity, and
more. Honorees will be recognized at NABJ Special Events during the NABJ Convention and Career Fair in Tampa.
NABJ and the National Conference of Editorial Writers (NCEW) jointly and
proudly each year give the prestigious Ida B. Wells Award to a media
executive or manager who has made outstanding efforts to make newsrooms
and news coverage more accurately reflect the diversity of the
communities they serve.
