CANDIDATES FOR VICE PRESIDENT-BROADCAST

Dorothy Tucker
GA/Specials Reporter
WBBM-TV
Chicago, IL

Intro/Background

Dorothy Tucker is NABJ’s Vice President of Broadcast. She is a veteran general assignment and consumer reporter at WBBM-TV as well as a talk show host on WVON radio.

Education

Northwestern University, Radio/TV/Film.

Experience

As Vice President of Broadcast, Tucker has met with top news managers at CNN, NBC, CBS and Vice Media to discuss diversity goals. She is taking the lead in establishing a task force with a prominent network that will become the blueprint to improve hiring, retention and promotion at major media outlets. Tucker is a board member of NABJ Chicago and the former NABJ Region V Director where she oversaw successful conventions in Chicago, Detroit and Milwaukee as well as two national conventions; Chicago 1997 and UNITY 2008. She formerly held local leadership positions in Pittsburgh, Denver and Memphis.

Related Experience

Tucker’s focus on fundraising helped address NABJ’s fiscal deficit in 2016. Securing support from first- time funders - Uber and Vice Media - in addition to spearheading NABJ’s first Financial Media Institute, she raised nearly $100,000. That effort included free Uber rides for 40 NABJ Student Project attendees and $10 discounts for NABJ/NAHJ members. With the help of the Broadcast Task Force, she created the #IloveNABJ social media campaign, producing :30 videos that will be added to NABJ’s archives. Tucker leads the development of our TV Producers Database showcasing candidates for news managers seeking to fill jobs.

Statement

I am honored to serve as your NABJ Vice President for Broadcast. During my term, I have hosted industry-specific webinars, created a Facebook group page to share jobs, media news and stay connected with members, attended the St. Louis chapter's 40th anniversary celebration and participated in NABJ’s Black Twitter Media Institute. While I’ve made some progress securing new digital media partners, attracting more digital companies must continue to be a top priority. Equally important is the battle to retain jobs and grow our numbers in an industry constantly facing new challenges. I need your support to continue the fight.
