Intro/Background
Gayle Hurd is a broadcast news anchor/reporter and talk show host. She currently works for WRAL-TV as an on-air host and WPTF-AM and the North Carolina News Network as a news and traffic anchor.

Education
Graduating with a Bachelors’ degree in Broadcast News and Public Affairs from the School of Communications and Theatre in Temple University's Annenberg School of Communications in Philadelphia, she considers herself fortunate to have always been able to work in her chosen field.

Experience
With over three decades of experience in Television and Radio in various markets, Gayle has worked for Curtis Media Group since June of 2012 as a News Anchor/Producer with their news/talk station WPTF-AM, and statewide North Carolina News Network, where she covered the 2012 Democratic National Convention.  Gayle was also Producer/News Anchor for The Steve Harvey Morning Show on CMG's urban format station, WBZJ-FM, until March 2014.

Gayle has won awards in both Television and radio, for hosting and producing talk shows and reporting and anchoring newscasts in Raleigh, Norfolk, VA and New York City.

Related Experience
Gayle also works as on-air and producing talent for media groups including Reach Media Inc. (Tom Joyner) and Centric/BET, and has extensive event planning and PR experience.

Gayle is very involved in her industry and her community serving on several boards including NABJ, where she is a two-term Region III Director serving eleven Southeastern states and her local chapter, the Triangle ABJ. She chaired 5 successful regional conferences and brought in many new and returning chapters. In 2015, she chaired NABJ's first Regional Conference on a Cruise! Gayle also serves on NABJ's Arts & Entertainment, Strategic Planning and Founders Taskforces.

Statement
It has been an honor to serve NABJ as Region III Director and as a chapter leader. I will use this experience and my 30-plus years in both radio and television to serve active as well as potential members see the benefits of NABJ membership.  I have encountered the difficulties that face many journalists of color and women, as well as the issues of those transitioning into a new career because of changing trends. I will continue to develop relationships within this industry in order to communicate the needs of broadcast journalists and increase diversity.
