The Elections Committee is pleased to announce the list of certified candidates for the 2017-2019 Board of Directors: 


CANDIDATE FOR REGION III DIRECTOR
 

 


Ken Lemon
Reporter
Cox Media Group - WSOC Charlotte
Charlotte, NC


 

Intro/Background

Ken Lemon is a reporter for WSOC TV, an instructor for Carolina School of Broadcast, reported for WECT TV and fill in radio news anchor for WMNX, and first published for “Wind & Tide” magazine at age 13.

 

Education

BA UNC Wilmington 1992, NC trained Conflict Resolution Mediator 1993, Certified IRE Watchdog Reporter 2016

 

Experience

Ken has served as deputy director for Region III, chairman of the council of presidents, vice chair for NABJ’s convention program committee, program committee member for NABJ/NAHJ16. He is a founding member of the re-established Charlotte Area ABJ and two-term chapter president. He has chaired the 2012 NABJ Democratic National Convention Mixer, hosted NABJ’s first regional conference in several years in 2013, actively organized programming for 5 regional conferences, 3 national conventions, led several meetings to strengthen local chapters, and established programs to honor high school students and improve financial stability for chapters.

 

Related Experience

Ken serves on the board of directors for the Gaston County American Red Cross. He helps to ensure that funding and personnel are available to help families dealing with crisis anywhere help is needed. Ken is a founding board member of the board for Great Expectations, a group that honors black male high school students who achieve academic excellence. He served as student body president for UNCW, served as a member of the board of trustees, approved a new chancellor. Professionally, Ken has won an Edward R. Murrow Award, 2 Emmy Awards, and 2 AP Awards.

 

Statement

Ken has extensive experience working with NABJ on a national and regional level. That experience has afforded him the opportunity to understand how to build programs that improves the lives of members, builds strong chapters, and expands the mission of promoting diversity in the media. He has repeatedly shown the ability to identify funding sources through partnerships that produce money needed to provide career building and changing professional development. He has mentored scores of emerging journalists and is committed to ensuing opportunities for growth everyone. He is ready to work for you Day 1.
